Oak & Iron Apothecary™: Herbal Tea Formulation
Occasional support for digestive comfort and post-meal digestion
Steady Current Tea is a gentle herbal tea designed to support digestion when bloating, gas, or stomach discomfort makes the digestive system feel unsettled. The formula combines traditional digestive herbs with mild calming botanicals that support natural digestive movement while helping the gastrointestinal tract relax.
Bloating after meals
Digestive gas or abdominal pressure
Occasional indigestion
Digestive discomfort related to stress
Slow or unsettled digestion
The goal of this formula is digestive comfort and balanced movement, not harsh stimulation
1. Digestive motility support
Traditional digestive herbs help encourage normal digestive movement and gastric emptying. These herbs help the digestive system process meals efficiently, which can reduce bloating and post-meal discomfort.
This mechanism is especially helpful when digestion feels sluggish or when food seems to “sit” in the stomach.
2. Reduction of intestinal gas and pressure
Carminative herbs help reduce gas formation and relax intestinal smooth muscle. This can help relieve the sensation of abdominal pressure, bloating, or cramping after meals.
These herbs have been used for centuries in digestive teas throughout European and traditional herbal medicine.
3. Nervous system calming
Digestive function is strongly influenced by nervous system activity. Mild calming herbs help reduce stress-related digestive tension and support the body's natural “rest and digest” response.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
Peppermint is widely used in digestive herbal formulas. It helps relax intestinal smooth muscle and may reduce symptoms of gas, cramping, and digestive discomfort.
Fennel Seed (Foeniculum vulgare)
Fennel is a classic digestive herb traditionally used to reduce intestinal gas and abdominal bloating. It also provides the mild naturally sweet flavor found in many digestive teas.
Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale)
Ginger supports gastric motility and helps the stomach process food more efficiently. It has long traditional use for indigestion, nausea, and digestive sluggishness.
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
Chamomile helps soothe irritated digestive tissues while also supporting nervous system calming. It is frequently included in digestive formulas that address stress-related stomach discomfort.
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
Lemon balm is a gentle calming herb traditionally used to support nervous system regulation. In digestive formulas it helps reduce stress-related digestive tension and discomfort.
Turmeric Root (Curcuma longa)
Turmeric provides mild anti-inflammatory support and has long traditional use for digestive comfort. It is often included in digestive formulas that support gut irritation and overall digestive balance.
Many digestive products fall into one of two extremes:
Highly stimulating formulas that can irritate the stomach
Very weak herbal teas that provide little digestive support
This formula is designed to support smooth digestive movement without overstimulation. Every ingredient was selected to support digestive comfort while maintaining a pleasant, drinkable flavor.
Use 1 level tablespoon per 8- 10 oz hot water
Steep 10-12 minutes
Strain and drink
Best used after meals or when digestive discomfort occurs.
This formula draws on published research and traditional-use monographs describing the digestive-support properties of the included herbs.
